Zusammenfassung
Beim Heimvorteil handelt sich um einen äußerst stabilen Effekt, der sich weltweit in allen bislang untersuchten Mannschaftssportarten (und häufig auch in Individualsportarten) findet (wie Baseball, Basketball, Eishockey, Fußball, Handball; vgl. Courneya & Carron, 1992; Pollard & Pollard, 2005; Strauß, 1999). Typischerweise beziehen sich die Studien auf Wettkämpfe mit balanciertem Spielsystem (vgl. Nevill & Holder, 1999) wie Ligaspielen mit Hin- und Rückrunde. Studien zum Heimvorteil in unbalancierten Wettkämpfen wie Turnieren mit Setzlisten sind dagegen deutlich seltener. In diesem Beitrag soll anhand aller bisherigen Resultate der Heimmannschaften bei Kontinentalmeisterschaften im Fußball (wie also der Europameisterschaft, aber auch des Africa-Cups und der Copa America) untersucht werden, ob und in welcher Höhe sich ein Heimvorteil in solchen unbalancierten Wettkämpfen zeigt. Insgesamt konnten die Heimmannschaften von den 604 erfassten Spielen 374 Spiele (62 %) für sich entscheiden, wobei der niedrigste Anteil an Heimsiegen bei den N = 47 Spielen der Europameisterschaft zu beobachten ist (55 %). Als Grund für den Heimvorteil wird der Einfluss der Setzliste auf die Stärke der Gegner der Heimmannschaft diskutiert.

Abstract
Home advantage is a very stable effect, which can be found worldwide for all examined team sports (like baseball, basketball, ice-hockey, soccer, handball, and in many cases also in individual sports; cp. Courneya & Carron, 1992; Pollard & Pollard, 2005; Strauß, 1999). These studies apply to tournaments with a balanced formation (cp. Nevill & Holder, 1999) like league matches with a first and a second round. Studies about home advantage in unbalanced tournaments, like those with seedings, are considerably rare. On the basis of all the previous results of home teams during Continental Championships in soccer (like the European Championship but also the African Cup and the Copa América), the article will deal with the question if home advantage exists in unbalanced tournaments and to what extent. In summary, home teams won 374 out of 604 matches (62 %), with the lowest proportion of home victory in N = 47 matches of the European Championship (55 %). As a result, the influence of the seedings on the away teams' strength will be discussed.
