Zusammenfassung
1924 führte Österreich als erstes kontinentaleuropäisches Land einen professionellen Fußballbetrieb ein. Die wirtschaftliche Situation freilich erlaubte es nur wenigen Vereinen, ihre Spieler adäquat zu entlohnen, sie ermöglichte es auf der anderen Seite nur wenigen Spielern, vom Fußballspielen zu leben. Dem steht der große Anreiz gegenüber, den der Profifußball gerade in Zeiten extremer Arbeitslosigkeit und enormer fußballerischer Erfolge auf die junge männliche Bevölkerung ausübte. Als Anfang der 30er Jahre auch andere europäische Länder den Professionalismus einführten, benützten viele Spieler die Möglichkeit, die dadurch entstandene Nachfrage nach Aktiven gerade aus Mitteleuropa zu befriedigen. Hauptemigrationsländer waren Frankreich und die Schweiz, wo über 100 Wiener Spieler tätig waren; dieser Artikel will die Arbeitsemigration allerdings an einem Seitenstrang untersuchen, nämlich an der Auswanderung von Wiener Fußballern nach Malta.
Abstract
In 1924 Austria was the first European country (except Great Britain) initiating a professional football league. But the economic situation allowed only some clubs to pay their players in an adequate way as on the other hand only few players were able to live on playing football. But also there was, based on the high number of unemployed people and on the great success of Austrian football, an enormous incitation for young men to try their luck being a professional player. When at the beginning of the thirties other European countries established professional football leagues too, many Viennese players took the chance to work abroad by realizing their passion as a job. The main emigration countries were France and Switzerland, where more than 100 players from Vienna had been engaged. This article will discuss the emigration of Austrian football-workers not in presenting the situation in the main emigration countries, but in the case of Malta.
