Alois Mader & Hermann Heck

Abstract
Proceeding the theoretical concept of Hill of muscular energy supply during heavy exercise, it will be shown, that a system theoretical attempt in human exercise physiological research opens the possibility of a unification between evelation of experimental results and theoretical concepts of regulation of energy metabolism at cellular level. The basical types of system responses and describing equations for a system theoretical view of metabolic regulation will be explained. Practical application for metabolic steady-state condition is demonstrated by example of a marathon race. Finally the problem between the relation of metabolic pattern in endurance training and the resulting active adaption of the mitochondrial system will be discussed.
